WHAT IS POINTING FINGERS ABOUT?

From Test Shoot, March 2023. Tamara Santos, Director of Photography.

The first of its kind, Pointing Fingers is a 90-minute dramatic feature film about, starring, and written by people with minimally-speaking autism.

When Francis and Claire, a couple with minimally-speaking autism, are wrongfully accused of murdering their aide, they must bring the real killer to justice to prove their innocence while facing extreme social bias.

In this fiction film, the lead characters who have minimally-speaking autism will be played by activist Dan Bergmann and author Emily Grodin, both of whom live with minimally speaking autism.

“I want the most diverse cast and crew possible in Pointing Fingers, and as many differently-abled actors as we can reasonably cast. This is because I want to evoke a world, aspirational at the moment but hopefully normal in the near future, in which very diverse people function together as if it’s perfectly normal to do so.” – Dan Bergmann

Dan and Emily spell together during their first meeting in January 2023.

To make Pointing Fingers with an inclusive cast, son-father team Dan Bergmann (he/him) and Michael Bergmann (he/him) have been developing a new way to rehearse and shoot that allows neurodivergent players the freedom to engage with the material in their own ways.
